Chris Wilder was only officially reappointed as Sheffield United manager at 1pm… but he’s already in front of the cameras ahead of the Blades’ clash with Liverpool on Wednesday.

Wilder said: “It’s surreal but great getting back into work this morning, where I love. Seeing old faces and new faces. Looking forward to getting back into the game. We’ve got Liverpool first up, so thank you very much!

“There has been little bit of a disconnect with the fans, particularly over the past two games. We need to set the ball rolling. As we all know, under the lights at Bramall Lane, it’s a fantastic place.

“It’s business, unfinished or not. We’re up against it. Everyone thinks we’re done and dusted. We’ve always had that. The rise before was great [from League One], a disappointing one in the middle, but, for the majority of time I’ve beee here, it’s positive.

“It’s going to be a long, hard season. There will be difficult moments. Hopefully we can get a reaction from the players.

“There were things I possibly shouldn’t have got involved in. But things have been repaired [with the club] but there’s a reason Prince Abdullah wants me back at this football club. The relationship between him and me is good.”

Now, we are doing better and we are improving in the standings, but we need to keep this level of performances because the competition is what it demands from us.

“It’s a matter of the schedule, we’ve had a tough schedule, it’s a bit of everyone understanding everyone better. Players are improving individually, physically and we have some players right now in a very good moment.

“Now what we need to do, especially this month when we play so many games, we need to take profit because we are in a good moment.

“We need to continue taking the points in this moment because normally during the season we will have moments where we are not so well or we are not so clean and we have to take our chances now.
